Officer Martin H. Grant responded to a report of a disturbance at a cafe on North Main Street in McPherson late on the night of February 11, 1937. After arriving on the scene, Officer Grant scuffled with a disorderly suspect, arrested him, and took him to the city jail. Following the arrest, shortly after midnight on February 12, 1937, Officer Grant fell ill and died of a heart attack. A McPhCounty county native, Grant was fifty years old when he died.
